Dr Lukman graduated from Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. He obtained his Masters Degree in General Surgery from National University of Malaysia (UKM) and graduated as best surgical candidate of 2001. He joined his alma mater as a lecturer and eventually promoted to become an Associate Professor of Surgery. As a surgeon, he trained in Advanced Endoscopy and Gastroenterology in Soon Chun Hyang University Hospital in Seoul, Korea. In 2005, he went for a year long intensive training in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at Institute of Laparoscopic Surgery (ILS), Bordeaux, France under the mentorship of world renowned laparoscopic surgeon, Dr Jean Louis Dulucq.
He is actively involved in advanced laparoscopic surgery namely abdominal wall hernias repair, upper GI surgeries and bariatric surgeries. He has authored multiple publications in both national and international medical journals. He had participated and organized a number of domestic and international scientific meetings and workshops pertaining to laparoscopic and bariatric surgeries. Currently he is practicing as a Consultant General, Digestive and Laparoscopic Surgeon in DEMC Specialist Hospital, Shah Alam and also as a Senior Lecturer in Monash University Sunway Campus.
